I have been making dolls forever. I started by making Barbie clothes out of things like my mothers Nylon stockings, and fabric scraps.
Later I made dolls out of rocks, yarn, nuts, even match sticks. In high school I made everyone I knew yarn dolls that I thought were pretty amazing, my grandmother still has hers on her bed.
I don't make dolls often but when I do I wonder why I don't do it more often. Here are a few new dolls and some older ones.
Enjoy.

Blue Bird-sold
This is a doll I made this year from a bisque doll head I poured a long time ago. I found the mold at a jumble sale and I was curious to see what was hiding in the mold. I poured it, fired it and kept it in a basket forever. One day I came across it and brought her to life. I was inspired by my best blue-bird friend Cinda Rae Oliverio who is an amazing collage artist.

Her skirt is a steel wire bird cage I made.

In her skirt are some little blue finches nesting and sitting on branches from my apricot tree.

She has a little paper and feather fan on her wrist and in her hand is another little bird.

Her bird print cotton dress is embellished with lace, ribbons, paper flowers, rhinestones, and little found objects.

Her head is piled high with natural mohair and decorated with little rhinestone flowers, baby birds and a tiny bird nest made from rusty wire.

PINK SKY-(NFS)
This not so little doll was inspired by Bella in "Pink Sky" A book I wrote. She is a jointed doll with a paper clay head and hands. She has embroidery floss for hair and cute cotton clothes.

In her hand is a butterfly that she finds amazing. I have pearl pins in her wrists so that she can be posed.

Her shoes are red felt and flannel and have silver button clasps. She is sweetness.
The Green Fairy

This is a little music box theater that has a stage that lights up.

The door opens and the fairy can be removed.

She is made of paper clay and her arms and legs move.

She can be operated by her puppet strings from the top of the theater.

Bella Dolls
Here are the new dolls. There are 18 in this collection.
After making the Bella doll I sat down at my drawing table and sketched these sweet little dolls.
I wanted them to be playful, simple and fun. For me color is everything, I like it bright and whimsical.
Each doll has a individually sculpted head, hair, arms and legs. All parts are hand painted. The textiles are all new and sewn by me, the girl who can not sew!
They are inspired by spring, the little girl in Pink Sky, my little girl , and the tenderness of childhood.
