Ceramics

I majored in ceramic sculpture at the California College of art.  Clay is my first love.  I have created a series of 50 teapots every year since 1998.  My last series was in 2006.

Here are few of those teapots, and yes they are all teapots!

  • 2006 Change

This was the last year I made the series.  I must have known in my heart that something was going on.  This series was all about cells, the design on the tiny teapot above is actually neurons.  This is the year my daughter came out of remission.  Two weeks after completing this series we found out that my daughter would need to start treatment for a malignant brain tumor.
  • The Perfect House

Houses are a common theme in my work.  This was the year I was looking at houses almost everyday with Alma, our real estate agent.  I was determined to find the perfect home.  We never did move.  I have found the perfect place to live; I just didn't know that I was already living there.
  • Found

This series was another step in exploring inside and out.  I have a fascination with the relationships we have with each other and the one we have with ourselves.  It is all very emotional - a combination of who we were, who we are now, and what we will become.  At the center of it all, we want to know where our home is, where we belong, and why.
  • Moving day

I am a control freak - I admit it.  As a woman, I like to be in charge, feel like I can take care of it all, fix  it all.  My primary job is to love my children and hold my family together.  Life doesn't always obey, and you sometimes find that you have to roll with change.
  • It's Official

The first gallery to show my work was Studio 7 in Pleasanton.  I was a nervous wreck when I went in.  I wasn't expecting Terri to say, "We will take them all."  I actually sold a teapot that day before I left.  I kept bringing them these wild outer-space meets Dr. Seuss pots, and they gobble em up.
