Textiles

Art Quilts

I took a little break from ceramics several years ago to spend time in waiting rooms.  I needed a lap project to keep my artsy fingers busy.  I started quilting in secret.  I hoarded fabrics, until I discovered textile dyes.

I have since "come out of the closet" with thread hanging from my hair, pins stuck in my shirt, and fingers dyed every imaginable color.

My great grandmother was a quilter and I have gone from seeing it as a "granny" kinda craft to understanding she was an amazing artist.  I am very honored to carry her quilting gene.

  • Mermaid

This is an incredibly beautiful quilt with thousands and thousands of stitches.  It is all hand painted with textile dyes.  My daughter Stevie designed the quilt and chose the colors.  It was a labor of love and was sold to the most amazing woman who fell in love with it at a show in Berkeley.  I wish I still owned it.  I will just have to make another. Sold
  • Flight

This quilt is also handpainted and surface stiched by free motion.  I never ever use a computer to do this work; it's way too much fun.  This quilt was sold at a show I did in Benicia.  The woman who bought it walked in and said, "That is me."  I looked at her with her pink cheeks and red hair and and replied, "Heck yeah it is!"  She wrote me a check right then and there.  It was hilarious.  I think it is so great that she has it.   sold
  • Squeeky Bones

My son named this quilt.  It was one of my first attempts to make my own fabric.  I used fabric paint and stitched the heck out of this thing.  It is a bold and fun piece.              400.00

  • Day and Night

This is one of my very first quilts.  I hand stitched it.  I didn't know how to use the machine to free motion quilt yet.  The panel is hand painted with textile dye.  I was still working on my lap at this time so the quilt is about crib size.  The front of the quilt is day, the back is night.  The stitching that came through to the back looks like little stars.  275.00
  • Cowboys and girls

This poor cowgirl has a sad story to tell.   This is one of the only traditional block quilts I have ever made or will ever make.  The back is a huge piece of denim given to me by a good friend.  I had no idea what to do with it until I  came across this sexy cowgirl and hunky cowboy fabric at Poppy in Berkeley.  It was sold to me by the sweetest girl with blue hair and more piercings than I could count.  I thought this would be a great family picnic quilt that could be passed down over the years.  It was not to be, friends.  Some damn Yankee rascal lifted it from the park while we were chasing dogs and running through the sprinklers.  Oh, that chaps my hide.
  • Naughty crazy quilt

I made this quilt with my grandmother in mind.  It is all vintage fabric, found objects and naughty erotica.  Yep, that was my grandmother and more.  The quilt was sold at a show in Chico to an amazing artist.  She promised to love and cherish this piece forever and ever.  She was so cute.sold
  • Sisters

This is my quilt.  The first one I made. It is painted with watered-down acrylics and fabric paint and hand stitched.  I had to keep it, because my finger tips bled so much quilting it.  I pull it out on cold nights when I am watching a sappy movie and eating Cherry Garcia.  Sold
  • Sarah

Sarah is my sister-in-law, one of my best friends and a childbirth Guru.  She is "The McMoyler Method."  I made this little jacket for her out of an old sweatshirt and all the fabric in my scrap drawer.  She can be seen walking around Benicia wearing this.  Now that is a good friend!   sold
